We're married!
How We Met
7.10.2016
Sorry folks, it wasn't one of those super romantic 'love at first sight' moments I'm afraid! In fact, I didn't think much of it in the beginning!
We met on a Friday evening in early October, as James had his induction shift at the theatre where I worked. He seemed like a deer in headlights at the start – sorry, but it's true! - and I tried to be as friendly and helpful as possible showing him the ropes. When I attempted to make conversation, I felt like he was so shy I was being a bother to him, so for the next three months the most we said to each other was "hi" and "bye" if we ever crossed paths on shift.
It wasn't until late December, when I was invited to a group cinema trip by a mutual friend - and James was also there - that the ice truly broke! (Apparently, seeing I was a fellow curly haired human as my hair was down was the turning point.) We formed a close friendship very quickly over the next few weeks; James would even bring me lunch on long shift days where I wouldn't have time for proper breaks and invite me to his place for a cuppa between or after work where we would talk and laugh for hours as we got to know each other more... That's pretty much when we thought, "okay, maybe this could be something!"
We met at work lol Kirstina was my supervisor and it got a bit out of hand.
Who Made the First Move?

James did, but he did it with flair. I mean, a guy presenting you with a George Foreman grill because apparently your Breville toastie maker is 'trash and smells like it's going to catch fire' is clearly the way to any girl's heart... and if that doesn't work, watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show with a bottle of wine is a good way to preface a first kiss! Right?
I did. We were having a night in at Kirstina's place, and I guess the mix of white wine and Tim Curry prancing around in tights meant there was something in the air...
The Proposal
1.2.2020
It was our three-year anniversary and James surprised me with a weekend away in Scotland – he insists that he had no intention to propose until the week before we went, but had the trip booked for two months already! When we arrived in Edinburgh, we went for a walk up Calton Hill to look over the city but forgot our umbrella (typical!) and it started to rain very heavily. We hid under a tree to exchange cards and as I finished reading mine, I looked up to see James holding the ring!
I had booked a long weekend away in Edinburgh as a surprise for our third anniversary. The plan was simple - go out on the first day (weather was meant to be very sunny), find a scenic place to stop off to exchange anniversary presents, propose. What could go wrong?
Well, Scotland really likes its rain. However, I was undeterred! We went to town (soaking wet), hiked up Calton Hill, found a dry spot under an unassuming tree, and I popped the question. She said yes, we stumbled back down the hill, found a Frankie & Benny's and celebrated with prosecco and a plate full of chicken. Pretty good day all in all.
